LSE Vice-President and Pro-Vice Chancellor: “BUV students earn degrees equivalent to those at the University of London” 17:16:26

Professor Emma McCoy, Vice-President and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), affirmed that BUV is one of LSE’s key academic partners and expressed her enthusiasm for future collaborations, including new undergraduate programmes currently in development to be offered at BUV.

On 15 September 2025, British University Vietnam (BUV) was honoured to welcome Professor Emma McCoy to its Ecopark campus during her official visit to Vietnam. She was greeted by Professor Rick Bennett, Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of BUV, together with the senior leaders of the university, faculty members, and students.

LSE is one of the world’s leading universities and a key academic institution within the University of London (UoL). Since beginning its collaboration with BUV in 2011, LSE has provided academic direction for six undergraduate programmes delivered at the university. Professor McCoy’s visit reaffirmed the close partnership between LSE, UoL, and BUV, and the shared commitment to ensuring that every UoL degree earned at BUV carries the same academic value as those awarded in the UK.

A shared commitment to UK standards

During her visit, Professor McCoy met with students from UoL programmes at BUV, where she expressed her admiration for their academic abilities, confidence, and analytical thinking. She noted that BUV students consistently rank among the top achievers worldwide across all LSE-directed University of London programmes.

LSE is currently ranked #1 in the UK and #56 globally, with a reputation for academic excellence in finance, economics, management, and the social sciences. Studying an LSE-directed UoL programme at BUV means students in Vietnam undertake the same academic challenges as those studying in London.

“Programmes academically directed by LSE at BUV follow the same content, standards, and assessment as those delivered in London. The consistent academic excellence of BUV students reflects the outstanding quality of teaching at the university and its ability to meet LSE’s rigorous academic expectations,” Professor McCoy shared.

BUV students also appreciated the opportunity to speak directly with Professor McCoy about the global recognition of UoL degrees and prospects for postgraduate study in the UK. She highlighted that BUV students are well prepared to take advantage of global opportunities across the University of London network.

“BUV students are always welcome to continue their academic journey with us — from the LSE Summer School and postgraduate programmes to professional development and executive education courses. With the academic foundation they receive at BUV, they are fully equipped to open these doors and many more,” Professor McCoy said.

Professor McCoy also toured BUV’s state-of-the-art campus, exploring its modern classrooms, creative spaces, and technology-enhanced learning environment. She praised BUV’s digital infrastructure and teaching facilities for mirroring the standards of leading universities in the UK.

“BUV students benefit from studying programmes equivalent to those taught at LSE in London, right here in Vietnam — in a world-class environment supported by innovative spaces and dedicated faculty,” she remarked. “Alongside academic knowledge, students develop teamwork, presentation, and personal skills that prepare them for global careers.”

Sustaining UK higher education excellence in Vietnam

Concluding her visit, Professor McCoy underscored the importance of the partnership between LSE, UoL, and BUV in maintaining world-class higher education standards in Vietnam. She affirmed BUV’s role as one of LSE’s most valued partners and shared her excitement about future collaborations that will further expand opportunities for Vietnamese students.

“We are honoured to welcome Professor McCoy to BUV. Her visit represents LSE and UoL’s confidence in the academic excellence delivered here in Vietnam. It is an important milestone that reinforces our mission to expand world-class UK education and global opportunities for Vietnamese students,” shared Professor Rick Bennett, Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of BUV.

Professor McCoy’s visit once again reaffirmed BUV’s role as a bridge connecting Vietnam with the UK’s higher education system. Upholding its mission to provide students in Vietnam with direct access to internationally accredited British education, BUV continues to strengthen partnerships with leading UK universities and solidify its position as a pioneer in setting five-star global education standards.
