Strategic postgraduate pathway to a world-leading institution

British University Vietnam (BUV) has officially launched a landmark partnership with the University of Hong Kong (HKU) – ranked 11th globally and 1st in Asia in the QS World University Rankings 2026. This milestone marks BUV’s first official university partnership in Hong Kong, further strengthening its global academic network and commitment to delivering world-class international pathways for students.

The partnership establishes a postgraduate progression pathway for BUV students to pursue the Master of International and Public Affairs (MIPA) at HKU. Through this collaboration, BUV students will benefit from a more streamlined admission route to one of Asia’s most prestigious postgraduate environments.

The official visit to HKU brought together senior representatives from both institutions, including Ms Hien (Jenny) Nguyen – Head of International Mobility & Partnerships, and Mr Trung Tran Duc – Head of Academic Services and Student Administration from BUV; alongside Professor Robert Thomson – Head of the Department of Politics and Public Administration (PPA), Professor Austin Strange – Director of the MIPA programme, and Ms Wei, Michelle YOU – Marketing Manager from HKU.

Commenting on the partnership, Professor Robert Thomson shared: “Driven by economic growth and cultural values, we are witnessing a rising interest among Vietnamese students to study in Hong Kong. The MIPA programme is uniquely designed to equip students with expertise in international relations theory and practice, paving the way for dynamic careers in government, international organisations, finance, NGOs, media, law, academia and beyond. We warmly welcome students from BUV to join our programme and build a global mindset in this rapidly changing world, where understanding international relations remains as relevant and urgent as ever.”

Ms Hien (Jenny) Nguyen also emphasised the strategic importance of the collaboration: “Partnering with HKU, an Asia’s top-ranked university, reflects BUV’s continued commitment to academic excellence and to expanding high-quality postgraduate opportunities for our students. This pathway not only enhances academic progression options but also reinforces BUV’s position as a gateway to leading global institutions.”.

Fast-track to world-class education

Beyond academic progression, the collaboration underscores BUV’s broader internationalisation strategy, ensuring that students are not only prepared for the global workforce but are also empowered to navigate complex global challenges with confidence and competence.

Beside British accredited degrees earned at BUV in Vietnam, BUV students can also diversify their learning experiences overseas with a network of 76 prestigious universities across 18 countries in 5 continents. In addition to progression opportunities, students can choose from short-term study abroad or semester exchange programmes, or transfer to a BUV partner university overseas in their final one or two years at one of the world’s top-ranked institutions.

Compared to independent applicants, BUV students enjoy a seamless and stress-free process to fast-track international academic opportunities with four key advantages:

  • Pre-mapped and Customised Pathways: All international academic opportunities are pre-mapped and tailored specifically for BUV students and graduates, helping them make the most of their BUV credits, save time and costs, while still enjoying a truly authentic international education experience.
  • Lighten the Application Load:
With comprehensive support from the BUV International Office on academic pathways and application procedures, students can reduce their application workload by up to 70–80%.
  • Streamlined Admissions with High Success Rate: BUV offers exclusive academic pathways with potential waivers for conditional entry requirements, including English proficiency tests and entrance exams. With dedicated support from the BUV International Office, students enjoy a remarkable 90% success rate across all international student mobility programmes.
  • Guaranteed Partner Scholarships: 100% of qualified students recommended by BUV International Office have a guaranteed opportunity to receive scholarships from partner universities, subject to funding availability and application timing.

With a vision to be recognised as the number one international university in Vietnam and the surrounding regions, BUV strives to equip students with strong academic knowledge and enrich their global outlook through diverse international experiences. By fostering cross-cultural understanding, adaptability, and resilience, BUV prepares its graduates to become the next generation of future-ready global citizens.
