The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) comprises the Senior Managers, Heads, Directors, and leaders of the most important areas within the University. The representation within the group is an excellent balance and mixture of experience, energy, gender, and nationality, with highly expert Vietnamese staff encouraged and supported to take leadership roles in most areas. The SLT reports directly to BUV’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President who oversees the daily operations, while the overall strategic management is led by our Vice-Chancellor with the support of VCE (Vice Chancellor Executives).

Professor Raymond Gordon

Vice Chancellor, President and General Director

Professor Dr. Raymond Gordon was appointed to the position of Vice Chancellor and President of the British University Vietnam in February 2018. Professor Gordon is not only an experienced leader in higher education having held leadership positions at the levels of President of BUV, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Technology and Sustainable Development at Bond University (Australia), Head of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia); but also an accomplished academic with extensive teaching and research experience at Universities throughout the world including Australia, UK, Europe, US and Asia. He focuses mainly on Higher Education, Vocational Education & Training with deep expertise in strategy, organizational transformation, industry relationships and partnerships, and digital education, which is committed to positive community, workplace and learning cultures with extensive ability in building trust and respect. Prior to becoming an academic, Professor Gordon spent 25 years in corporate sectors where he held senior leadership positions in the field of general management, marketing and sales, technology and engineering management.

Professor Rick Bennett

Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President

Raised and educated in London, England, Rick completed a Bachelor’s (Hons) degree in Fine Arts from Bristol Polytechnic (now UWE). Following graduation in 1984, he was employed for 7 years in the UK TV/film industry. In 1990, he emigrated to Australia and began working for UNSWin Sydney. In 1998, Rick completed a Master of Higher Education degree (UNSW) and subsequently initiated a research project that explores the advantages of using digital technology within education. In 2009, Rick completed his PhD thesis (University of Sydney) titled; Drawing on The Virtual Collective: Exploring Online Collaborative Creativity in the Visual Arts.

In 2015, following twenty-four years within the Design School at UNSW, Rick moved to Vietnam to take up the position of Head of the School of Communication & Design at RMIT University in Ho Chi Minh City. Following 4 successful years in the role, he was appointed Vice-President (Academic) and then later RMIT Vietnam Executive Dean (Academic & Students), which he continued for a further three years. In 2022, with extensive educational leadership experience in Vietnam, Rick relocated to Hanoi to take up the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President at the British University Vietnam (BUV)

Chris Jeffery

Chief Academic Officer

Chris has worked in Vietnam for 12 years, moving from Bayes Business School, City University London to Hanoi to help launch British University Vietnam in 2010 and has been heavily involved in growing it from 20 students to 2,000, developing a value-added skills element to all students as well as being a team member for the new campus development and launching new programmes, Vietnamese qualifications as well as UK degrees. Chris was previously faculty and managed/taught at Bayes (formerly Cass) Business School, City University, London, where he started teaching management to undergraduates, then covering admissions and international partnership for all management courses. In 2002 Chris was appointed course director of the Executive MBA programme at Cass and, over a period of 8 years, redesigned the programme content and structure, launched new models of study and crafted a world-class international offering. Over the 8 years, Chris and the team grew the programme to number 10 in the world as ranked by the Financial Times.

Before joining academia, Chris worked at the BBC political unit in London on several programmes and projects, including general election coverage, budgets and European elections.

Chris is also an active member of BritCham Vietnam and is presently its past National Chair, having served in this role for 3 years, and before that, it’s Vice-Chair, representing British Business to Governments at all levels up to and including Prime Ministerial. Chris is also a Board Member of the Vietnam Business Forum.

Within his roles outside of BUV, Chris sits on advisory boards as well as makes frequent media appearances talking about UK/Vietnam political and business affairs.

Assoc. Professor Jason MacVaugh

Associate Professor and Dean (Higher Education)

Born in the United States but raised and educated in the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom, Jason completed a BSc in Business Management from N.C. State University. Following graduation in 2000 he was employed in both in the UK and the USA banking sectors. In 2002, he completed an MSc in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from Brunel, and subsequently in 2003, won a studentship for a PhD in Knowledge Management. Jason’s career includes teaching and research activities across international locations including: Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the USA, Italy and Tunisia.

Jason in a keen Teaching and Learning champion; winning a HEA National Teaching Fellowship in 2011, multiple faculty teaching and learning excellence awards, and publishing Pedagogic research alongside his disciplinary work in Innovation and Human Resource Management.

Tony Summers

University Registrar

Tony made the move to academia in 2006 after a successful 30 year career as a senior manager in the ICT sector. With extensive professional experience in the many facets of business including business development, sales, marketing, general management and operations Tony brings a wealth of knowledge to his classroom that he enthusiastically shares with his students. Tony’s motivation for teaching comes from a deep and continuing interest in marketing, strategic management and globalisation as well as the reward he feels when students make an intellectual connection for the first time. “I believe that University students should be encouraged to take responsibility and ownership for their own learning and that my primary role is to energise, motivate, guide and act as one of their key learning resources”. Moving to Vietnam in 2011 and joining BUV as one of the first lecturers, Tony has progressed through the roles of Lecturer, Programme Leader for all Staffordshire University programmes, Senior Lecturer and now Deputy Chief Academic Officer and Senior Lecturer in Management. His current role focuses on University-wide academic operations and leading the team of international faculty.

Nguyen Thi Vinh Thuy

Chief Operating Officer

Thuy Nguyen is passionate about the FDI sector and commits her career to supporting and contributing to Businesses that invest in Vietnam’s future. She brings over 15 years of project development, business operations experience, and expertise to British University Vietnam, where she serves as Chief Operating Officer. She is a member of the Senior Executives Team responsible for the University’s strategic development, growth, and expansion. She spearheads and leads its operational function activities to keep the business on target and on track. Before working at BUV, Thuy worked seven years at Indochina Capital (ICC), one of Vietnam’s leading real estate advisory, investment and development companies, where she advanced through various senior positions to manage the entire life cycle (from licensing, construction through to asset management and operation) of one of Vietnam’s first and most high-end premium complex valued at about US$200M from scratch.

Thuy holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) and a Master’s degree in Economics in Economic Expertise and International Project Management from Université Paris 12.

Thuy is a licensed Real Estate Broker and Evaluator with certificates in Real Estate Trading, Floors Management and Operation, and Project Management Certificate.

Vo Hong Hanh

Director, Marketing, Communications and Student Recruitment

Hanh began her career in 2002 and quickly discovered that she was into sales & marketing when she applied for Oracle in 2004. She was soon recognised and promoted to Education Sales Manager at Oracle Vietnam a few years before being nominated for the role of Marketing Manager. Hanh was Oracle’s first Vietnamese marketing manager after the company had been in Vietnam for 13 years. She left Oracle in late 2012 after completing her Postgraduate in Marketing at Solvay Business School (ULB) to pursue other opportunities outside of IT. She was offered different Marketing and Business Development opportunities at Flame Media, Vingroup and Techcombank before joining BUV in May 2015 to begin the next chapter of her career in the Student Recruitment Department.

Hanh has been with BUV for seven years and led the Student Recruitment & Institutional Partnerships team to meet substantial new student recruitment targets and expand the markets and recruiting channels. In May 2022, she was appointed as the Director of Marketing, Communications and Student Recruitment, overseeing both Marketing & Communications and Student Recruitment & Institutional Partnerships. “Our job is to provide information and inspire young students to nurture their dreams, pursue their passion and be their best version here at BUV’.

Tran Thi Lan Huong

Director, Human Resources

Ms Huong is a Human Resources leader with sophisticated and distinctive leadership techniques gained from nearly 20 years of substantial professional experience leading multi-national organisations in both profit and non-profit sectors. Ms Huong joined BUV in late 2017 and is responsible for The University’s overall human resources strategy, including talent acquisition, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, organisational and cultural development, employee education and development, compensation and benefits, HR operations and technology, employee relations, and business continuity planning.

As the Human Resources Director, she has worked with leaders from all divisions and functions to develop and manage a capable workforce that can support The University’s strategies, goals and plans as well as its ever-changing demands.

Huong is a certified coach via the International Coach Federation (ICF). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language and International Studies and a Master of Art in Business with distinction from the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems.

Ta Ha Lan

Head, Student Engagement

Lan began her journey with BUV in 2016 when she started as Manager for the Department of Student Experience, Placements and Alumni. She looks after all aspects of student life, including clubs and societies, their career development and employability, career counselling services, as well as expanding and maintaining the corporate networks, ultimately to ensure BUV students have an enjoyable and fulfilling university time while accumulating all necessary skills to become future global citizens. Before her job at BUV, Lan has many years of experience in different roles in Marketing, Hospitality, Event Operations and Management and Partnership Development in international organisations such as International Data Group (IDG), KinderWorld Education Group, JW Marriott and the British Chamber of Commerce.

Lan took up her new role at BUV as Head of Academic and Student Operations in 2021 and expanded her area of responsibilities to a broader operational and managerial scope, overseeing other offerings and services of the university, including Admissions, Course Operations and Student Services.

Luong Khanh Luong

Head, Training Centre & Corporate Delivery

Luong has more than 17 years of working experience in higher education and training. He previously worked for the National Academy of Education Management, MOET Vietnam, in the position of Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Office, with core responsibilities in developing and implementing professional development and capacity-building projects for Vietnamese teachers, education managers and stakeholders in both public and private sectors.

At BUV, he oversees the development and management of strategic partnerships and links and the provision of BUV training programmes to external partners. Luong’s roles are to manage BUV’s Training Centre for English and Management Skills, Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), and the BUV Innovation Centre (BIC). BUV Training Centre for English & Management Skills under Luong’s management is operating and delivering Cambridge A-Level Programmes, IELTS at BUV and high schools, and topic-focused training courses to satisfy the needs of various industries.

Tran Lam Chau

Director, Finance and Accounting

Chau Tran was appointed Head of Finance and Accounting at British University Vietnam in 2019.

Before becoming a member of BUV, he was an experienced financial leader in diversified groups and companies, including Big 4 and real estate firms. Chau is a member of ACCA and CPA.

The role of Chau Tran is important and well-acknowledged as to strengthen BUV’s financial foundation for supporting sustainable growth and improving the capital efficiency of the University.

 

 

Chau Tran was appointed Head of Finance and Accounting at British University Vietnam in 2019.

Nguyen Kim Dung

Director, Legal and Government Affairs

Kim Dung is a licensed lawyer and an accredited mediator. She became the Head of Legal and Government Relations for BUV in May 2012. She is responsible for providing legal counsel on the educational developments and operations of the University. Before joining BUV, she has over 18 years of experience providing legal services and consultancy in foreign investment in the Automobile industry and Medical Services. Kim Dung holds a Master’s degree in Law and is currently pursuing a PhD in Law at the Vietnam National University. Kim Dung’s research focus is on the development of policy for the private education sector in Vietnam. She is an active member of the Law Composing Panel of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam. Her work on opening private education policy is reflected in the 2018 and 2019 reforms to the law on higher education, which was certified by the Merit Award of the Minister of Education and Training in 2019.

Le Duc Minh

Senior Manager, Legal & Compliance

Before joining BUV in November 2016, Minh spent 6 years as an Associate at a reputable foreign law firm in Vietnam, where he advised MNEs on their investment projects in Vietnam (including, but not limited to, building up their commercial presence, M&A, restructuring, labour concerns, and other legal topics). His areas of competence include investment law, business law, and education law. Minh is an LLM holder with distinction graduating from the Master of Laws in International Trade and Economic Law programme at the University of the West of England.

At BUV, Minh’s primary role is to provide strategic legal & compliance advice, guidance and counsel to the VC and the management team, ensuring the University and its departments operate legally and ethically while meeting business goals. In addition, he is also responsible for developing legal compliance programmes, reviewing company policies, and advising management on possible legal risks.

Duc is a Senior ICT Manager with a proven track record throughout his 17-year career in the information technology field.

Since starting his career at FPT Software in 2005, he has held several important positions, including Project Manager of FPT Software, a core member of the engineering team at First Telecom, and Head of Project Management Office at Global Enterprise Mobility. He has been leading and managing many large ICT projects. Some of the great companies he’s worked with are KPMG, AIA, Deutsche Bank, Jurong Port, DNP, Nippon Steel and Fujifilm.

Duc is passionate and enthusiastic about technology. He always looks for new technologies and solutions to enhance user experience and businesses in every aspect of life.

Duc graduated from FPT University – Greenwich University and FPT-Aptech with a major in Computer Science and Software Engineering. In addition, he earned a Project Management Fundamentals credential.

Nguyen Thai Vuong

Senior Manager, Campus Facilities and Services

Upon his graduation from National Economics Universities, Vuong got himself various experiences working in multiple sectors across Vietnam, from being Team Leader in Customer Services for 4 years, working in the F&B industry for 2 years, Urban Management for 4 years, Logistics for 3 years, and Facilities and Operation Management for 5 years.

Joining BUV in 2019, Vuong is responsible for the renovation works around the campus and daily operations, including infrastructural, technical supervision and campus services. His duties include but are not limited to supervision of day-to-day systems operations, periodical maintenance, faults identification, verification and handling. He is also responsible for implementing and documenting campus operating standards, all operational standards and guidelines, site safety plans, and policies and procedures related to outsourced services.
