British University Vietnam fosters teaching quality through digital platform Knowledge Hub 15:00:51

In response to the demand for innovation in higher education during the digital transformation era, British University Vietnam has developed “Knowledge Hub” – an internal platform that supports faculty in enhancing their expertise, innovating teaching methods, and promoting a lifelong learning spirit within the academic community.

Teaching Quality and Faculty Competence Go Hand in Hand

In the context of education constantly evolving under the influence of technology, globalisation, and the ever-growing demand for innovation from learners, enhancing teaching quality has become a strategic priority for universities. Faculty not only need to adapt to increasingly diverse learning needs but also must continuously update their knowledge, innovate teaching methods, and master modern teaching tools.

Educational quality cannot be separated from the competence and sustainable development of the faculty staff. Recognising this, British University Vietnam (BUV) has developed “Knowledge Hub” – an internal platform that promotes a lifelong learning spirit, knowledge sharing, and teaching method innovation. This is not just a tool to support professional development but also a strategic step that demonstrates BUV’s commitment to building a pioneering academic community where the spirit of continuous learning is nurtured.

Educational quality is inseparable from the competence and sustainable development of the faculty.

This also serves as clear evidence of BUV’s commitment to realising its educational philosophy, established from its establishment, emphasising lifelong learning and “Purpose-based Impact Learning” (PBIL). These two philosophies not only guide students but also serve as a compass for the development of the faculty members, those who play a pivotal role in the journey to enhance educational quality and shape future generations.

The Foundation for Innovation in Teaching and Learning

Knowledge Hub is an initiative spearheaded by the Academic Quality Office (AQQ) in collaboration with the Centre for Academic Development (CAD) at BUV. Designed to elevate teaching and learning standards, it is not only a support program for faculty members but also a strong pillar that fosters a spirit of collaboration within the BUV academic community.

“Knowledge Hub” is an internal platform that promotes a lifelong learning spirit, knowledge sharing, and innovative teaching methods among BUV’s faculty.

Knowledge Hub is designed as a collaborative digital platform where faculty members can access shared resources, learn from one another, share experiences, and explore the most advanced teaching methods. Through specialised workshops and in-depth training sessions, both in-person and online, this platform provides a comprehensive support ecosystem, enabling BUV faculty to stay in tune with educational innovation trends, from integrating technology into teaching to applying modern learning methods.

Currently, this platform provides information on topics like Assessment and Feedback, Digital Technologies, Problem-Based Learning, and current research on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).

From Platform to Practice

As a dynamic academic space, Knowledge Hub has implemented numerous practical activities to help BUV faculty access and effectively apply new educational trends. All these training sessions were organised by the Academic Quality Office under the joint collaboration between two departments. Specialised training sessions not only provide theoretical knowledge but also create opportunities to practice, discuss, and share solutions for modern teaching.

The Knowledge Hub team has implemented various practical activities to help BUV faculty access and apply advanced teaching methods.

Start with the series of practical events, Associate Lecturer Darius Postma and Dr. Sasha Goodwin, Head of the Centre for Academic Development, conducted a training session on applying the AIAS GPT feature (AI Assessment Scale GPT) to analyse and develop effective levels of AI use in student assignments. In the context of artificial intelligence (AI) playing an increasingly significant role in education, this activity equips lecturers with the necessary tools to proactively, appropriately, and purposefully integrate AI into teaching.

Following this, a training session on Problem-Based Impact Learning was led by Dr. Mark Wheaton, Dean (Higher Education), and Dr. Sasha Goodwin. The session focused on guiding lecturers to design practical learning scenarios that encourage students to think creatively, critically, and proactively solve problems. This is considered a practical step to prepare students to tackle challenges in the workplace after graduation.

Knowledge Hub is a strategic initiative aimed at elevating teaching standards at BUV.

Concluding the series of events was a training session on integrating ClassPoint into teaching, led by Mr Michael Lomax, Head of Pre-University. ClassPoint is a tool that integrates directly into Microsoft PowerPoint, enabling faculty to create interactive questions, conduct quick surveys, and collect real-time student feedback during lessons. In the session, faculty members were guided on how to design interactive lectures and utilise features to gather student feedback in real time. The use of ClassPoint not only enhances student engagement and focus but also brings positive changes to classroom organisation and management.

Dr. Jyotsna Bijalwan – Head Academic Quality shared: “I always believed that enhancing the quality of teaching and learning is at the heart of academic excellence. Driven by the Academic Quality Office at BUV, the ‘Knowledge Hub’ stands as a flagship initiative dedicated to elevating teaching excellence and enriching the student learning experience. Born from the recognition that academic delivery must evolve with changing educational landscapes and technological advancements, the Knowledge Hub was envisioned as a transformative platform to champion innovative pedagogies and academic integrity. At its core, the Knowledge Hub is a testament to BUV’s relentless pursuit of academic distinction and assurance of learning.”

Agree with the above viewpoint, Dr. Sasha Goodwin said: “Knowledge thrives when it’s shared, not stored. For me, the Knowledge Hub represents more than just a repository of information—it’s a living space where educators can connect, collaborate, and grow together. I believe that informed academics lead to better teaching, stronger institutions, and ultimately, empowered students. This initiative is deeply personal because I’ve seen first hand how access to shared expertise can transform classrooms and inspire innovation.”

Knowledge Hub is a strategic initiative aimed at elevating teaching standards at BUV, encouraging innovation, experience sharing, and professional development among faculty members. It also serves as a platform that contributes to building a high-quality learning environment, fostering the parallel development of teaching and learning.
