As part of the programme, these volunteer trips exemplify BUV’s commitment to integrate ESG principles into activities, empowering students to serve as catalysts for positive change.

A Heartfelt Charity Trip to SOS Village Hai Phong

The charity trip to SOS Village Hai Phong last June was a collaborative effort between the BUV Volunteer Club and the BUV Green Project. During their visit, the students participated in various activities designed to engage with the children and staff at the village. They cooked meals together, played games, and organized art projects to foster creativity and joy. Additionally, the students also presented donations to the children here.

These activities aimed not only to provide immediate support and joy to the children but also to help the students understand the challenges and successes of the SOS Village model in Vietnam. This interaction was deeply rewarding for both students and children, as they shared stories, experiences, and dreams, bridging the gap between their diverse backgrounds.

Haneen Alkhaliafah, a student from Arts University Bournemouth who joined the trip to SOS Village Hai Phong, reflected on her experience: “This is the first time I participated in a charity activity like this, and it was truly amazing and impactful. BUV has allowed me to connect more with diverse communities, get to know the people, and interact with individuals from different backgrounds.”

Paul Shiji Kuriakode from the University of Surrey expressed his enthusiasm about his first charity experience: “Being part of the BUV Cultural Immersion Programme has been one of the best experiences for me.”

SOS Children’s Village Hai Phong is home to 14 families, each named after a flower. Since its establishment, the Village has nurtured 394 orphaned and abandoned children, integrating 188 of them into the community. The Village places great emphasis on cultural education and personal talent development, regularly organizing classes and clubs to nurture the children’s abilities. Many have excelled in competitions, winning awards in painting, chess, athletics, and more.

Enhance Environmental Awareness at Ha Long Bay

Along with the visit to SOS Village Hai Phong, the international students have also taken part in an environmental activity at Ha Long Bay. Collaborated with BUV Green Project, they have joined BUV local students in a waste collection initiative. This activity aims to enhance awareness about environmental conservation and the importance of maintaining clean and healthy natural surroundings.

In addition to participating in the waste collection activity, the international students enjoyed a visit to Sung Sot Cave – Ha Long Bay’s largest and most beautiful cave, renowned for its unique stalagmites. They also explored the tranquil Trinh Nu Cave area, where they engaged in kayaking. The trip provided a comprehensive experience of Ha Long Bay’s natural wonders and environmental conservation efforts.

The trip to Ha Long Bay has left lasting impressions and beautiful memories for international students

Bridging Cultures through Meaningful Engagements

These activities provided students with practical insights into the daily lives and challenges of the local community, shaping their global outlook and fostering empathy. By hosting and participating in such programs, BUV reaffirms the university’s commitment to nurturing globally minded individuals prepared to make a positive impact in an interconnected world. The combined efforts of the BUV Volunteer Club, the BUV Green Project, and the visiting international students highlight the profound impact of collective action and shared values in creating a better future for Vietnam.
