This summer, students from the Business School at the British University Vietnam had the chance to learn directly from businesses through two company visits in Hanoi. From a premium coffee shop in the city centre to a craft beer factory on the outskirts, each visit offered valuable lessons in management and entrepreneurship.
Exploring the customer journey at Kafela Coffee
As part of the first visit, students at the British University Vietnam (BUV) explored Kafela Coffee – a premium brand known for its focus on bean quality and customer service. Guided by Dr. Phuong Hoang – BUV Lecturer, Co-founder and Marketing Director of Kafela, the students observed and analysed different “touchpoints” in the customer journey, from the store atmosphere to the style of service.
Beyond observation, the students were given a real challenge: to design solutions that could improve the customer experience and present their proposals back to Kafela a week later. The task allowed them to apply theory to practice while developing essential skills in analysis, problem-solving, teamwork and business presentation.
Gaining entrepreneurial insights at C-Brewmaster
Later in the summer, 47 BUV Finance students continued their learning journey at the C-Brewmaster beer factory in Me Linh, Hanoi. The group was welcomed by Founder Nguyen Van Cuong, the entrepreneur behind the craft beer brand.
After touring the production lines and brewing technology, students listened to Mr Cuong share his entrepreneurial journey – from managing working capital and raising investment to keeping cash flow steady to sustain and grow the business. The visit concluded with an open Q&A session, where students not only engaged directly with the founder but also strengthened the link between finance theory and real-world business operations.
Learning through experience
From Kafela Coffee to C-Brewmaster, these summer company visits gave BUV students the chance to broaden their business perspectives, gain practical skills and experience real workplace environments. This is how the Business School at BUV brings the classroom beyond campus, preparing students with the confidence and knowledge they need for their future careers.
