BUV students “gave their all” with vibrant performances at The Universe Showcase
This summer, the stage at British University Vietnam (BUV) truly came alive with The Universe Showcase – an annual event organized by the BUV Dance Club. More than just a performance night, the event vividly brought to life a journey through space using the language of dance, captivating the audience visually while stirring their emotions.
The event drew over 300 spectators and featured 12 performances by BUV students, alongside guest appearances from RMIT Hanoi Dance Club, VinUni Dance Crew, and Greenwich Dance Crew.
The Universe Showcase was entirely conceptualized and produced by BUV students, from scripting and choreography to visual design, event planning, and stage production. With a carefully curated storyline, the showcase led the audience through three chapters, each symbolizing a different stage of the cosmic journey, while also mirroring a deeper path of self-discovery.
A Universe of Emotions in Every Step
Inspired by planets and their iconic stories, The Universe Showcase is more than just a series of entertaining performances. It is a tale of a journey exploring the familiar Earth to distant planets in the universe, woven through dance moves.
The adventure begins with Chapter 1: Celestial Dawn, featuring a vibrant and energetic Opening performance representing Earth. Yet, beneath the simplicity of everyday life lies a deep yearning to break free from mundane cycles.
The Opening performance tells a vibrant story of everyday life on Earth
The yearning to step out of the comfort zone is the spark that ignites the journey to conquer new lands, portrayed in the two performances Girlstyle and Afro, which capture the excitement and thrill of first encountering unknown planets.
If Chapter 1 marks the beginning with an explosion of energy, depicting the emotions of touching new worlds, Chapter 2: Lost in the Void serves as the quieter, introspective part of the journey. As the cosmic “travelers” venture further, they are drawn into an emotional maze, facing the sweet traps of Venus and Mars.
With a vibrant Hiphop style, the dance group portrayed a stage where humans are manipulated like puppets, reflecting a state of losing control amid ambition and delusion.
This intensity gave way to the performance at Uranus, where a slower tempo, paired with fluid body movements and evocative lighting, evoked feelings of confusion and disorientation.
Entering Chapter 3: The Luminous Within, the stage took on a calm and introspective tone. The performance at Pluto, using the Dancehall style, conveyed a message of self-reflection and inner awakening. Following this, a dance set against the backdrop of the Moon brought a gentle feeling, depicting the process of healing and reconnecting with oneself.
The showcase has reflected BUV students’ creativity, artistic thinking, proactive spirit, and organizational skills within a UK-standard international education environment.
Sharing after the event, Phuong Anh, a member of the BUV Dance Club, said: “Each planet represents a part of our journey to maturity. There’s innocence, immersion, loss, and also return and healing. I hope that everyone can see a piece of themselves in these performances.”
The showcase concluded with the Ending performance representing the Sun, wrapping up the journey with a message of returning positive energy and stability. This final act also tied together the entire story of The Universe, bringing the main character back to Earth with a renewed perspective.
Through 12 dynamic performances by BUV student groups and guest artists, the showcase has painted a powerful metaphor for the journey of self-discovery, delivering an inspiring message that encourages young people to step beyond their comfort zones and explore the world.
