Term Project

This module will introduce students to the fundamentals of financial accounting; incorporating international terminology, accounting standards and accounting regulations. Students will develop skills in processing a wide range of accounting transactions, adjustments and corrections and action these using the process of duality. Students will also learn how analyse financial statements using various ratios.
In Financial Reporting, students will learn how to apply International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other theoretical frameworks and principles to prepare a range of financial statements. Students will delve into an in-depth understanding and application of the principles laid out in the Conceptual Framework, an important cornerstone of current and future IFRSs. Further, students will learn IFRSs focusing on assets and liabilities needed in preparing limited company accounts.
In this module students will learn how to apply accounting standards, theoretical frameworks and principles to a range of financial statements. The main focus will be on accounting for group financial statements and the equity method. Students will also learn about primary aims of not-for-profit and public sector entities and those of profit-oriented entities, the extent to which International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) are relevant to them.

Knowledge and understanding

A student will be able to:
• Communicate knowledge and understanding of several of the major contexts within which accounting operates, based on a critical evaluation of related theoretical and conceptual frameworks and of empirical evidence as to its effects;
• Communicate knowledge and understanding of, and appropriate ability to use and critically evaluate, current and major alternative technical languages and practices of accounting, together with appropriate ability to apply them;
• Record and summarise financial data and prepare financial statements;
• Manipulate financial and other numerical data and appropriate understanding of and ability to apply mathematical and statistical concepts;
• Communicate and apply knowledge and understanding of the principles of business information systems management at an appropriate level;
• Analyse business activities and perform financial analyses and projections in appropriate contexts of planning, decision making and control at an appropriate level; and to recognise the limitations of these techniques;
• Communicate knowledge and understanding of financial management, risk, and the operation of financial markets at appropriate level, based on critical evaluation of theories and empirical evidence.

Academic Requirements

Aged 17 or over. One of the following qualifications:

  • Complete IFP programme
  • Complete A level or IB with good grade of one of the following:
    • Upper Secondary School Graduation Diploma: comparable to UK GCSE/IGCSE grade A – C / 9 – 4 provided grade 5 – 10 is achieved on a subject for subject basis in final year of schooling (with the exception of English Language)
    • Mathematics to UK GCSE/IGCSE Level (Grade C) or equivalent

English Language Requirements

One of the following:

  • A proficiency test passed within the last 3 years:

    • (IELTS) International English Language Testing System: 6 overall, with 5.5 in each sub-test (Academic or General or IELTS Indicator Online Test)

    • Pearson Test of English, Academic: 54 overall, with 54 in Reading and Writing elements

    • (TOEFL) iBT Test of English as a Foreign Language (including Special Home Edition test): 87 overall, with 21+ in Reading and Writing sub-tests and 19+ in Speaking and Listening sub-tests

  • An award within the past 3 years: International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE): English as a Second Language (grade C)
