At a stage in life when many choose stability, Nguyễn Xuân Hợp embarked on a new journey – returning to the classroom after more than 20 years, all while managing a demanding international work schedule. His story is a powerful testament to the spirit of lifelong learning in an ever-changing world, where staying up-to-updated is essential to lead, adapt, and inspire.
Starting his career as a technical engineer at Target – one of the leading retail corporations in the U.S. and a Fortune 500 company – Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Hợp has deepened his expertise but also expanded his responsibilities into management. Through resilience and relentless effort, he rose to his current role as Global Purchasing Director at Target, overseeing operations in Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Mr. Hợp is currently the Global Purchasing Director at Target Corp, overseeing operations in Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia.
In today’s rapidly changing economic landscape, Mr. Hợp realised that technical expertise alone was no longer enough. The market and technology evolve hour by hour, and staying ahead requires constant upskilling. That insight drove him to pursue an MBA at BUV – not only a decision driven by the desire to sharpen his leadership capabilities but also to set an example of lifelong learning for both his team and his children.
Stepping back into academic life after nearly 25 years was no easy feat. But Mr. Hợp remained determined, drawing motivation from the state-of-the-art campus, practical curriculum, and engaging learning experience offered by BUV. With a flexible schedule tailored to professionals, the programme enabled him to balance his studies with a demanding business travel schedule and leadership responsibilities across borders.
“My MBA journey at BUV exceeded all my expectations. It broadened my strategic thinking and allowed me to immediately apply what I learned to real projects at Target – from interpreting financial reports to drive operational decisions, to managing teams effectively, developing business growth plans, proposing a post-consumer plastic bag recycling initiative, and designing a ‘Direct to Manufacturing’ strategy to optimise the supply chain and reduce emissions”, he shared.

Beyond business knowledge, BUV MBA programme helped him refine essential skills for the global workplace – from cross-cultural leadership to business etiquette in multinational settings. For Mr. Hợp, the weekly MBA sessions were more than just academic – they became compact networking opportunities, where he exchanged ideas with fellow professionals across generations, including Gen Z classmates. This cross-generational engagement helped him better understand and collaborate with younger members in his organisation, while also staying on top of emerging trends such as AI and innovation.

“This new academic milestone has not only allowed me to strengthen my capabilities, but also reinforced my confidence to move forward in my leadership journey” – Mr. Hợp shared
With an internationally recognised MBA now in hand, Mr. Hợp encourages fellow mid-career professionals: “Pursue your MBA with a growth mindset. Step beyond your comfort zone, you’ll be surprised by what’s possible.”
