Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the prestigious UK-based education ranking organisation, has just released the QS Yearbook 2024, which evaluates and ranks universities worldwide in the QS World University Rankings list.
This is one of the world’s most widely recognised and reliable annual university rankings. The QS World University Rankings evaluate universities based on various rigorous criteria such as teaching quality, research, employer reputation, international student ratio, and more. The 5-star rating is the highest level, awarded to universities that achieve excellent scores across all criteria.
Globally, some renowned universities that have been rated 5 stars for many years by QS include Harvard University, MIT, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, and the National University of Singapore, among others.
The 2024 Edition of the QS World University Rankings in Vietnam
In Vietnam, the year 2024 witnessed a notable increase, with 9 universities making it to QS star ratings, marking a surge of 4 compared to 2023. Notably, British University Vietnam (BUV) stands out as the sole university awarded a comprehensive 5-star rating by QS, a distinction it has upheld since 2022.
Next in line are universities including VinUniversity, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics & Finance, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Ba Ria-Vung Tau University, Van Lang University, all awarded 4 stars, while Van Hien University received a 3-star rating.

In the ASEAN region, Thailand has two universities achieving a 5-star QS rating, the Philippines has one, Malaysia has fourteen, Indonesia has two, and Brunei has two.
In broad terms, universities awarded a 5-star rating by QS are considered top-tier universities on a global scale. These universities are characterised by their high-calibre faculty, cutting-edge academic programmes, state-of-the-art facilities, and vibrant international learning environment. Graduates from QS 5-star universities typically enjoy favourable job prospects with attractive salaries, thanks to the universities‘ esteemed reputation and the quality of education widely acknowledged by employers.
