British University Vietnam (BUV) is launching the BUV Scholarships 2026 Programme, standing alongside a new generation of young people who are ready to lead with confidence. Through these scholarships, the University aims to widen access to an international learning environment for talented students across Vietnam.
A Springboard for confident pioneers
What should a university scholarship truly recognise: outstanding grades, or a person’s potential to create long-term impact?
For Tran Minh Duc and Nguyen Duc Anh, applying for a scholarship at British University Vietnam (BUV) was not simply about seeking financial support. It was the first time both had to look at themselves with complete honesty – moving through uncertainty and comparison, and ultimately defining their personal values and long-term direction. This reflects how BUV approaches scholarships: not only as an opportunity to study, but as a foundation for reflection, growth, and shaping each learner’s development journey.

BUV’s scholarship programme is built on the ACE model – Aspiration, Commitment, and Empowerment – broadening opportunities for a wide range of candidates. It is not limited by geographical background or financial circumstances, as long as applicants demonstrate inner drive, independent thinking, and a clear sense of direction.
In 2026, the BUV Scholarships Programme comprises 12 categories, reflecting a multi-dimensional approach to human development and aligning with academic priorities, international partnerships, and workforce needs in the digital transformation era. Notably, BUV is introducing the Building the Future: Software Engineering Scholarship and the Tech Queens Scholarship, aiming to develop high-quality tech talent while strengthening women’s participation in STEM fields.
A key milestone for the 2026 admissions season is BUV’s first collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University, delivering a degree-awarding programme in Vietnam. Alongside this milestone, the Manchester Scholarship will be offered exclusively for the first intake year — not only signalling academic value, but also underscoring education’s role as Vietnam–UK relations are elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The value of BUV’s scholarship programme is underpinned by the University’s three-tier quality assurance framework, encompassing Vietnamese national standards, UK standards, and international benchmarks. Within this framework, scholarships are not separate from academic provision; they form part of BUV’s long-term strategy for academic development and future workforce cultivation.

For that reason, the selection process is designed to be holistic — assessing academic capability, community engagement, career orientation, growth potential, and the ability to contribute to society. This enables the University to see the “person behind the application”, rather than relying solely on quantitative indicators.
A foundation for breakthrough journeys
For Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, the scholarship recognised an academic and service-driven journey shaped from an early stage. With a GPA above 9.0 and an IELTS score of 7.5, Thuan also became the first student from his high school to compete on “Road to Olympia”. He further distinguished himself through leadership roles in the student council and the social project “An” promoting gender equality. The combination of academic excellence, competitive mindset, and community responsibility helped him surpass more than 1,000 applicants to secure the British Ambassador Scholarship, worth VND 1.2 billion, for BUV’s Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programme.
If Thuận represents applicants with clear early direction, then Chu Thi Phuong Anh, the recipient of the BUV Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship, shows how a scholarship can also unlock opportunity during a process of self-discovery. Growing up in a rural area of Bac Ninh, Phuong Anh made her mark by taking on leadership roles in volunteer clubs and beginning work in marketing while still at upper secondary school. Her application reflected strategic thinking and long-term potential – factors that helped her secure a high-value scholarship, access entrepreneurship projects and external relations activities, and be selected as an outstanding delegate to an international youth forum under the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Thien Quang demonstrates the long-term value of scholarships once students step beyond the classroom. A graduate of Computer Science with First-Class Honours, Quang is now an AI Researcher at LacBird Group and previously won Gold at the Global Start-up Design Thinking Hackathon 2024 with SpeakEase – an AI-powered application supporting children who face communication difficulties. From an entry scholarship to research and innovation achievements, Quang’s journey shows that scholarships do more than fund study: they help shape research capacity, pactical application, and professional integration in a globalised workplace.

Like Tran Minh Duc and Nguyen Duc Anh, the scholarship journey does not end with initial recognition. From early uncertainty, the two went on to co-found Vscholars – a student-led project supporting upper secondary pupils through the scholarship application process – and, in doing so, gradually shaped their personal values and long-term direction. They are currently taking part in an exchange programme in the United Kingdom, continuing to broaden their academic experience and strengthen their global outlook.

These stories reflect a consistent philosophy: BUV scholarships do not look for a single mould, but instead create the conditions for individuals with genuine inner drive to turn potential into real-world value. In that sense, BUV Scholarships 2026 not only accompanies students throughout their studies, but also contributes to developing a confident young workforce — ready to integrate internationally and make positive impact within a global higher education environment.
On a broader level, this approach enables BUV to play a deeper role in elevating Vietnamese higher education, moving towards its position as a reputable transnational education (TNE) hub in the region. Building on that foundation — with the ambition to become a leading international university in Vietnam and the wider region, and a longer-term goal of reaching the Top 100 universities in Asia — BUV will continue to invest strongly in academic programmes and scholarships, nurturing the “lion-hearted” spirit of a bold pioneer generation.
