BUV opens door to transferring to universities within the UK’s Russell Group 16:20:07

With the hallmark of British educational legacy and international quality, British University Vietnam (BUV) is the first university in Vietnam to establish a strategic partnership with two prestigious universities from the UK’s Russell Group, opening up global learning opportunities with internationally recognised degrees.

A symbol of global educational heritage

While the United States has its prestigious Ivy League universities and Australia boasts the Group of Eight (Go8) universities representing its top institutions, in the United Kingdom, the Russell Group stands as a symbol of prestigious institutions known for their world-class teaching and cutting-edge research.

Universities within this group have a long-standing tradition of producing leaders, scholars, and global experts, including notable figures such as Stephen Hawking, the Theoretical Physicist; Sir David Attenborough, the Naturalist and Documentary Maker; and Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. These institutions not only require students to achieve academic excellence but also demand exceptional research and creative capabilities.

Renowned universities in the Russell Group.

Russell Group universities account for more than three-quarters of the total income from research grants and contracts in UK higher education and are responsible for 60% of all Ph. D.s awarded in the UK.

In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, the Russell Group contributed 65% of the UK’s world-leading (4-star) research, with 91% of its research rated as world-leading (4-star) or internationally excellent (3-star). The group is also distinguished by its teaching quality, as evidenced in the 2023 Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework, where 35% of Russell Group universities received Gold, and 65% earned Silver ratings.

Studying at a Russell Group university is a significant aspiration for international students, including those from Vietnam. However, given the highly competitive nature and stringent entry requirements, gaining admission to these institutions is a considerable challenge. Therefore, pursuing an opportunity to study at a Russell Group university through a pathway or international collaboration programme presents a highly valuable and attainable alternative.

The next bridge from Vietnam

In Vietnam, British University Vietnam (BUV) is currently the only university with a strategic partnership with Russell Group universities: the University of London (its alliance members belong to this group) and the University of Liverpool.

The University of London, a distinguished alliance of 17 prestigious universities, including renowned institutions in the Russell Group such as King’s College London, Queen Mary University of London, and University College London, offers a wide array of high-quality programmes. BUV currently offers six degree programmes directly awarded by the University of London and academically directed by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), one of the top four universities in the UK according to The Guardian’s 2024 rankings and also a core member of the prestigious universities group.

The University of Liverpool, ranked among the top 25 universities in the UK according to the QS Ranking 2025, is a key member of the Russell Group. Recently, BUV signed an MOU with the University of Liverpool to launch undergraduate and postgraduate cooperation programmes, offering international learning for BUV students.

Specifically, the 1+2 Advance Entry Requirement route allows students to complete their first year at BUV and then continue their studies at the University of Liverpool, experiencing an international learning environment and expanding cultural exchange opportunities. For Postgraduate studies, the 3+1 Programme prioritises BUV graduates in Business & Management programmes for admission into Master’s programmes at the University of Liverpool, thanks to the academic quality assurance agreed upon by both universities.

As part of this strategic partnership, BUV students have the chance to receive special scholarships when joining the Cooperation programmes. Compared to independent transfer students, BUV students benefit from direct support with transfer procedures, saving time and costs while minimising the risk of rejection or the need to start their studies from scratch.

BUV and the University of Liverpool are still in the process of discussions and will continue to collaborate in developing a diverse range of programmes, providing BUV students with numerous quality learning opportunities to meet the varied demands of the future.

The cradle of art and sport

Liverpool, renowned not only as a leading educational centre but also as a vibrant cultural destination, attracts many international students. This historic port city is famous for its rich musical heritage, particularly The Beatles, creating a youthful and creative atmosphere.

Liverpool is also a hub for the arts and sports, providing students with abundant opportunities to experience and explore. The multicultural environment here enables students to gain valuable life experiences and develop skills that enhance their future careers. With reasonable living costs and a high quality of life, Liverpool presents an attractive choice for Vietnamese students wishing to study in the UK.

In addition to the opportunity to study at these prestigious universities, BUV students have the chance to exchange with nearly 50 partner universities in 14 countries worldwide. During their 3 years at BUV, students can fully immerse themselves in learning and experiences across 2-3 countries, opening up opportunities to engage with and transfer to various advanced educational systems.

With a strong foundation in British education, Home of the Lionhearted—BUV—not only equips students with solid knowledge but also fosters a pioneering spirit, resilience, and critical thinking, empowering them to face challenges confidently and make a positive impact on society.
