As the world experiences unprecedented change, social disruption, fragmentation and uncertainty, BUV sees vast opportunities for Vietnam.

With these opportunities in mind, BUV’s mission has two key foci:

  1.  Provide high-quality British degrees and a world-class campus in Vietnam.
  2.  Create a new generation of discoverers, explorers and creative thinkers who are educated, trained and prepared to thrive in future (4IR) fields of work and life.

Sir Graeme Davies/

Sir Graeme completed his term of office as Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of London in September 2010, a post he took up in October 2003. He is now Emeritus Vice-Chancellor of the University, the first to be awarded this honour.

Previously he was Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow from 1995 to 2003. He was Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England from 1991 until 1995. As such he played a key role in the development of policies concerned with the contribution which higher education institutions make to economic development through teaching, research, and related activities, with particular emphasis on international developments in higher education including the utilisation of online resources.

He moved to the Funding Council from being Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool from 1986 to 1991. He was Professor of Metallurgy in the University of Sheffield from 1977 to 1986 having taken up that post after 16 years in the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science in the University of Cambridge, where he was also a Fellow of St. Catharine's College. He was knighted in January 1996 for services to higher education.

Professor Gordon is not only an experienced leader in higher education having held leadership positions at the levels of President of BUV, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Technology and Sustainable Development at Bond University (Australia), Head of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia) and the Head of Centre for Commerce and Management for RMIT University (Vietnam); but also an accomplished academic with extensive teaching and research experience at Universities throughout the world including Australia, UK, Europe, US and Asia and others.

Prior to becoming an academic Professor Gordon spent 25 years in the corporate world where he held senior leadership positions in the field of technology and engineering management.

Professor Michael Driscoll/

President of the Higher Education Division of Taylor’s Education Group, Malaysia and Vice Chancellor and President of Taylor’s University.

Professor Driscoll was appointed as Vice Chancellor and President of Taylor’s University in 2016. Before joining Taylor’s he served for 20 years as Vice Chancellor of Middlesex University in London. He has also held academic posts at Birmingham and Sheffield Universities in the United Kingdom and visiting appointments in France and India and Russia. Professor Driscoll is a member of the Board of Management of the British University Vietnam.

Outside of academia he has worked at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris and as a consultant to financial organisations in London.

Professor Driscoll is an economist specialising in monetary and financial economics.

Karl Engkvist/

Karl Engkvist is President of Taylor’s Education Group Pte Ltd (TEPL).  TEPL is chartered with helping Taylor’s Education Group expand regionally and diversify into adjacent education sectors. 

Karl started his career at The Princeton Review in the US, joined Blackboard Inc in 1999 and was a member of the company’s executive team through 2010.  During this time, he set up and ran the edtech pioneer’s joint venture company in China, where he lived from 2003-2006. 

Following Blackboard, he was SVP of Business Development for Asia Pacific at Pearson PLC, after which he was Managing Director of Nobel Education Network in Singapore until joining Taylor’s in 2017.  He is a graduate of Dartmouth College. 

Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan/

Dato’ Loy became Head of Taylor’s Education SdnBhd in 2003. During this time, it has grown from a single college and 2 schools, to an international education group comprising 7 international schools, 2 colleges and 2 universities operating in Malaysia, Singapore & Vietnam with a population of about 23,000 students.

The Taylor’s brand is today synonymous with quality education and has been the recipient of numerous awards including Gold in the prestigious Putra Brand Awards in Malaysia for 7 consecutive years. Since 2010, it has also won the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Gold Award for 6th consecutive years.

Dato’ Loy has been an active member of YPO-WPO (Young Presidents’ Organization – World Presidents’ Organization) & currently sits on the board of the Family Business Network Asia. In 2015, he was appointed as a member of Putrajaya Higher Education Task Force to ensure delivery of the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 for higher education.

Abby Lew Tong/

Abby Loy is Executive Director  of Taylor’s Education Group, a private educational services organization that owns and operates some of the oldest and highly reputable private education institutions in Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam.

Since 2003, she has been an active member on all the major Boards within Taylor’s Education Group and has devoted her professional life to supporting the growth of the group to become a premier international education group comprised of universities, colleges, international schools, students accommodations and education assets.

In additional to education, she is also involved in healthcare services as co-founder of a highly respected and established ambulatory centre of orthopaedic care.

Prior to Taylor’s Education Group, Abby has served the MBf Group of Companies from 1986 to 1999 in various directorship and leadership capacities in timeshare management, fast food services, hotel development, procurement & distribution services.  And, in the International trading, import and export business.

With a career path that spans more than 30 years across multiple sectors, she is particularly passionate about education and healthcare and is a driving force in helping the Group to achieve its vision.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.       

Henry Nguyen Bao Hoang/

Henry Nguyen is currently the CEO of Timo, Vietnam’s pioneer digital bank, and the Chairman of Phoenix Holdings, an investment company focused on operations in technology, retail/consumer, fintech, sports & media. Prior to Phoenix, he has also served as the Managing General Partner of IDG Ventures Vietnam, a private equity firm focused on consumer, technology, media, and telecom investments in Vietnam. In addition to these two roles, Nguyen is also the Developmental Licensee for all McDonald’s restaurants in Vietnam.

Nguyen is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum and an Asia 21 Fellow of the Asia Society. He was also honored with the John Connor Humanitarian Award 2015 by Operation Smile due to his deep contribution in the role of the Chairman of the Board of Advisors for Operation Smile Vietnam. He has served on the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, and he is currently a member of the Advisory Board of ASEAN Business Club, the regional business platform to support Southeast Asian economic integration.

Henry earned his B.A. (Magna cum Laude) in Classics at Harvard University, and his M.D. and M.B.A. from Northwestern University Medical School and the Kellogg School of Management.
