British University Vietnam (BUV) and Hue University have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), laying the foundation for academic cooperation, cultural exchange, student progression, and the development of international partnerships between the two institutions. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr Bui Van Loi, Vice President of Hue University; Professor Rick Bennett, Vice President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of British University Vietnam; and representatives from the leadership and academic units of both universities.

The signing followed Hue University’s visit to BUV and BUV’s subsequent visit to Hue University’s campus, during which both sides held initial discussions on potential areas of cooperation based on each institution’s strengths and development priorities.

As key economic regions continue to develop and the demand for high-quality human resources becomes increasingly evident, higher education needs to build more effective bridges between international standards and local needs. For BUV, the partnership with Hue University marks an important step in expanding its academic connections in Vietnam, particularly in the Central and Central Highlands regions, while laying the groundwork for more flexible and connected learning pathways aligned with the region’s human resource development priorities.

Through this partnership, students and graduates of Hue University will have an additional channel to access UK-standard higher education programmes in Vietnam. Beyond creating the basis for future models of student progression, articulation, and credit recognition/transfer, the agreement also lays the foundation for deeper academic connections between the two institutions, giving students clearer, more flexible learning options that better align with their abilities, aspirations, and personal development goals.

With nearly 70 years of tradition in education and research, Hue University is not only a major academic centre in the Central and Central Highlands regions, but also a bridge for international knowledge exchange in the region. As one of Vietnam’s major multidisciplinary public university systems, Hue University has strengths across a wide range of fields, including education, science, medicine and pharmacy, economics, foreign languages, law, arts, agriculture, forestry, and tourism. The university is also ranked 348th in Asia according to the QS Asia University Rankings 2025.

Representing Hue University, Dr Bui Van Loi, Vice President of Hue University, emphasised: “Hue University has always placed importance on developing partnerships that can expand learning opportunities and enhance the academic experience for students. Our collaboration with BUV will give learners more options to access a UK-standard education model right here in Vietnam, while creating a basis for both institutions to build more connected learning pathways that support students in continuing their academic journey in a clear, flexible, and effective way.”

Professor Rick Bennett shared: “UK education in Vietnam offers students not only programmes built on international academic standards, but also the opportunity to learn in an environment that is closer to the region’s development context. We believe this partnership will create an additional learning option for students in the Central and Central Highlands regions, helping them access flexible learning pathways, develop global competencies, and better prepare for future career opportunities.”

As the first and only university in Vietnam to maintain a comprehensive QS 5-star rating for six consecutive years (2022–2028), and the first institution in ASEAN and the only one in Vietnam to achieve university-wide accreditation from the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), BUV is steadily affirming its role as a trusted provider of UK-standard education in Vietnam. BUV’s programmes are built on international academic standards, practical application, and global workforce needs, helping students develop professional expertise, independent thinking, and adaptability in multicultural learning and working environments.

Through expanding cooperation with reputable education institutions in Vietnam, BUV aims to bring UK education pathways closer to Vietnamese students, not only in major urban centres but also in regions with strong development potential. Building on this foundation, the university will continue to promote flexible and connected learning models aligned with international standards, giving learners more suitable options to continue their academic journey, develop their capabilities, and prepare for the global workplace.
