British University Vietnam (BUV) and the Communication University of China (CUC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a new academic partnership aimed at advancing media and creative education across Vietnam and China.

Where British Standards Meet Chinese Media Excellence

Under the MoU, the two institutions will collaborate across five key areas: faculty and student exchanges, coorganisation of academic conferences, exchange of scholarly publications and teaching materials, and reciprocal leadership visits to review progress and explore new directions.

Known as the “cradle of media talent”, CUC is one of China’s most prestigious universities, with leading strengths in journalism, broadcasting, television and digital content. As a key university under China’s Project 211 and Project 985 – strategic national initiatives to build world-class institutions – CUC brings a depth of academic expertise and an extensive regional network that makes this partnership particularly significant.

This partnership holds significant importance for both BUV and CUC, as it reflects a shared commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and international education.

For BUV, the partnership with CUC opens new academic horizons in media, communications and creative industries – fields that sit at the heart of BUV’s growing strengths. Recently, BUV was ranked among the world’s top 200 universities for Art and Design in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, a recognition that underscores the university’s ambition to be a serious academic destination not just for business and technology, but for the creative disciplines shaping the digital age. This collaboration with one of China’s foremost media institutions takes that ambition further.

Professor Rick Bennett, Vice President of BUV, said: “CUC’s reputation as China’s foremost institution for media and communications is well established, and it speaks directly to where BUV is heading. Our recent recognition in the QS World University Rankings for Art and Design reflects our growing ambition in the creative disciplines, and partnering with an institution of CUC’s calibre accelerates that journey. We believe the students who will shape the next decade, in media, digital content, communications and beyond, will benefit enormously from having access to both a British academic foundation and the depth of expertise that CUC brings.

For CUC, the partnership offers a meaningful gateway into Southeast Asia’s most dynamic higher education market, and access to a growing community of high potential students and academics in Vietnam, at a moment when the region’s creative and digital industries are expanding rapidly.

The comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam has been deepening, and higher education cooperation has ushered in new development opportunities,” shared Mr. Chai Jianping, Vice President of CUC. “It is hoped that the signing of this memorandum of cooperation will be used as an opportunity to promote joint talent training, people-to-people exchanges and scientific research cooperation between the two universities, and help the common development of the region.

Growing China Engagement

This partnership builds on BUV’s broader and growing engagement with Chinese education partners. The signing took place alongside the Vietnam-China Forum on Higher Education Cooperation, Science, Technology and Innovation – one of the flagship education events of the State Visit.

In December 2025, BUV signed a strategic MOU with the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) under China’s Ministry of Education, making BUV the only international university in Vietnam officially recognised as a qualified foreign institution by China’s Ministry of Education, with its degrees verified and recognised in China.

Most recently, BUV was honoured by the Hunan Enterprise Confederation for its contributions to the Chinese business community in Vietnam, reflecting the university’s deepening ties with the broader Chinese community in the country.

As the first university in Vietnam and ASEAN to achieve comprehensive QAA accreditation, and having maintained a QS 5-star overall rating from 2022 to 2028, BUV continues to affirm its pioneering role in delivering high-quality British education in Vietnam, working towards its vision of becoming the leading international university in Vietnam and the region.
