Faculty Knowledge Exchange with Chengdu University: Advancing Global Collaboration in Computing Education 09:32:25

The School of Computing & Innovative Technologies at British University Vietnam (BUV) recently marked a significant milestone in its internationalisation efforts by hosting its first Faculty Knowledge Exchange with Chengdu University–Stirling College, China. Taking place in July, the two-day event welcomed seven visiting professors and focused on fostering academic collaboration, sharing best practices, and exploring opportunities for long-term partnerships.

Sharing Best Practices in Teaching and Innovation

The exchange programme was designed to encourage open dialogue between faculty members from both institutions, addressing shared challenges in teaching, research, and curriculum development. Discussions centred around adapting to rapid technological change, ensuring curriculum relevance, and improving student engagement in an increasingly global learning environment.

A core feature of the event was a series of focused workshops. These included sessions on marking and moderation, using Codio to enhance coding education, gamification in computing courses, and privacy and ethics in AI-driven learning platforms. The workshops offered practical insights and hands-on experiences, enabling participants to exchange innovative teaching approaches and consider how these might be adapted to their own contexts.

Building Pathways for Research and Student Collaboration

Another major outcome of the exchange was the exploration of joint research opportunities. Faculty members shared their current projects and research interests, identifying areas of mutual focus such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and educational technology. Plans were outlined for future collaboration through joint publications, grant applications, and co-supervision of student research.

In addition to faculty development and research, student-focused initiatives were also a key priority. Both institutions agreed to develop international student competitions and collaborative learning platforms, creating opportunities for cross-cultural engagement and joint academic experiences. Plans are in place to establish communication channels between students, including digital platforms and peer mentoring schemes.

The exchange concluded with a strategic planning session, outlining long-term goals across curriculum co-development, faculty exchange programmes, and enhanced student mobility. Formal communication channels between the institutions were established to maintain momentum and ensure sustainable collaboration.

Dr. Ali Al-Dulaimi, Head of School of Computing & Innovative Technologies at BUV, reflected on the event, “This exchange represents a transformative moment in our international engagement strategy. The personal connections formed, knowledge shared, and ideas exchanged will form the basis for long-term collaboration that benefits both our faculty and students.”

Dr. João Fialho, Co-Award Leader in Data Science at Chengdu University–Stirling College, echoed this view, “The exchange was well-organised and productive. It exceeded expectations and lays a strong foundation for future academic cooperation between our institutions.”

This inaugural faculty exchange underscores BUV’s ongoing commitment to building meaningful global partnerships that enrich academic experiences, promote innovation, and prepare students to thrive in an interconnected world.
