Film and Media Production: A Multi-Billion-Dollar Industry with significant opportunities for Vietnam’s Young Generation 14:18:25

As more and more films break revenue records, Vietnam’s filmmaking sector is on the rise, thus creating a promising career path for those young talents.

The Booming Film Industry

According to Statista, the Box Office market is expected to reach US$45.03 million by 2025, marking a positive recovery post-pandemic. Vietnamese films are leading the way, with seven films already grossing over 100 billion VND in just quarter one of 2025, including Chị dâu, Bộ tứ báo thủ, Nụ hôn bạc tỷ Đèn âm hồn, Nhà gia tiên, Quỷ nhập tràng, and Địa Đạo: Mặt trời trong bóng tối.

Globally, the film and video market continues its upward trajectory. The Business Research Company predicts the rise from $308.47 billion in 2024 to $328.49 billion in 2025, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5%.

These figures highlight the immense potential of the entertainment industry in both Vietnam and worldwide. Furthermore, macroeconomic policies relating to Vietnam’s cultural industries are drawing positive attention. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has set a target for cinema to develop as both an art form and an economic sector, specifically contributing 7% of the national GDP by 2030.

A promising industry for young creatives

With the dramatic growth of the filmmaking sector comes the requirement for human resources. The average annual growth in the cultural industries workforce is expected to reach 8%, representing 6% of the economy’s total labour force.

The booming film industry is driving dynamic training programmes for young, creative talents to thrive

With that being said, the chance to work in this dynamic sector has never been more attainable for those young creatives. The demand for skilled individuals is increasing in various areas, from film and television to advertising and live events.

This is a significant motivator for expanding filmmaking programs at universities while providing broad career prospects for Vietnam’s youth. However, there’s still a gap in Vietnam’s higher education when it comes to systematic and in-depth training in film and media production.

Global Vision for Film & Media Production

While passion for filmmaking runs deep, many young people find themselves lacking essential skills, the systematic training, creative depth, and professional environment needed to succeed at the industry’s highest levels.

To narrow this skills gap and meet growing demand, British University Vietnam (BUV) has developed a British Validated Bachelor of Arts degree program in Film and Media Production, combining academic rigour with hands-on experience. The unique point of this program lies in its comprehensive teaching approach, which covers technical skills, strategic thinking, and project management. This approach aims to prepare students for leadership positions in this competitive industry.

The programme opens up opportunities for students to take on leadership roles in the global film industry

In an English-speaking educational environment, students will learn how to balance creativity with commercial considerations, utilize industry standard techniques and technologies, and develop projects for the regional and international markets.

The program offers students the chance to find their place in the multi-faceted film and media production industries, or to begin their own startups, shaping the future of filmmaking in Vietnam and worldwide. BUV students will expand their career paths and build professional networks through real-world projects, internships, company visits, and workshops. They will graduate from a 5-star campus, with an impressive and varied professional portfolio, strategic mindset, and an internationally recognised British degree.

Dr. Paul D.J. Moody, Head of BUV’s School of Communication & Creative Industries said, “Vietnam’s young, dynamic market of 100 million gives strong growth potential for film and media production. Our new programme will educate and promote a new generation of high-quality film and media creatives to play key roles in the Vietnamese, ASEAN and wider international markets.”
