Professor Raymond Gordon representing British University Vietnam at MOET Conference on Cooperation and Investment in Education 2022 11:38:35

At the conference, Professor Raymond Gordon, Vice-Chancellor and President of BUV, talked about our investment plan in higher education, with a total fund of over USD 165 million and emphasised the recent achievement of attaining an overall rating of 5-star from QS, as well as the university’s concentration on developing tech-based majors at undergraduate levels – a field of great demand in the current context of Vietnam.

On 15 September, the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam successfully held a conference on investment policies and attracting foreign investment into Vietnam within the field of education, with country officials, diplomatic organisations, investors, and educators of Vietnam presenting. The event primarily focused on demands and practical experiences regarding cooperation and investment from local and international bodies, while assisting new organisations in acquiring support.

At the event, Professor Raymond Gordon, Vice-Chancellor and President of BUV, represented the University as one of the greatest investors in the education of Vietnam, with a total fund of over USD 165 million.

Specifically, BUV is committed to implementing a long-term investment strategy with three investment phases for the training campus. The first phase has been completed and put into operation with multi-functional classrooms, large lecture halls, and a modern library.

The construction of the BUV campus Phase 2 in EcoPark started in August 2022, with an investment of 33 million USD, and is expected to be completed in early 2025. At this stage, BUV invested in building a new canteen with a total floor area of 4,096m2, a sports complex including basketball and badminton courts, and a new academic building. By building a world-class learning campus for Vietnamese and international students, Phase 2 is inextricably linked to the University’s mission of creating graduates who are capable of thriving in a new era of scientific, social, and technological advancement.

Considered a successful model in the strategic educational cooperation between the two governments of Vietnam and the UK, BUV has been dedicated to building an international higher education environment right here in Vietnam. The facilities are continuously invested to upgrade and expand. By 2028, BUV Campus phase 3 will be completed and will be ready to provide an international learning experience for more than 10,000 students.

In particular, the construction and development plan constantly contribute to the continued efforts of BUV to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in operational activities such as using water and plants for interior and exterior decoration; taking advantage of the natural wind for fresh air circulation in the corridor areas to minimise the use of air conditioning, etc.

Besides sharing our development scheme, Prof. Gordon also highlighted BUV’s recent achievement when it became the first university in Vietnam to attain an overall rating of 5-stars from QS. This is a rewarding accomplishment in our journey of contributing to the development of Vietnam’s education.

Along with the investment in infrastructure for teaching and improving educational quality, BUV is also making efforts to develop tech-based majors at undergraduate levels – a field of great demand in the current context of Vietnam.
