BUV team chosen for UK Association of National Teaching Fellows (ANTF) project

A BUV team, including Dr. Mike Perkins, Associate Professor Jason MacVaugh, and student author Nguyen Vu Viet Anh, will be working on a UK Association of National Teaching Fellows (ANTF) funded project led by Dr. Mary Davis, Academic Integrity Lead at Oxford Brookes University. This project is designed to explain how BUV expects students to use GenAI tools in university assessments. The BUV proposal was chosen to be one of 10 case-studies selected globally as an example of good practice in AI adoption in academics as they pioneered the utilisation of AI in assessment.

The project is a case study on BUV’s adoption of the five-point AI Assessment Scale (AIAS) for using AI in assessments at BUV. This scale, based on work carried out by tag Leon Furze, ranged from a ‘No-AI’ approach where AI usage is banned to a ‘Full-AI’ approach where GenAI tools are actively encouraged to be used in student work. The AIAS was introduced in August 2023, and now a widely applied practice at BUV.
The AIAS helps educators consider how their assessments might need to be adjusted considering GenAI tools, while also clarifying to students how and where these tools might be used in their work. This case being selected demonstrates how BUV’s adoption and integration of AI is influencing the global conversation around AI use in Education.
Five-point AI Assessment Scale (AIAS)
Notably, the project welcomes the participation of Nguyen Vu Viet Anh, an International Business Management student at BUV. Viet Anh was selected to join the project based on his previous work on AI with the BUV Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI): “I am honoured to join Dr. Mike Perkins to present the case study on BUV’s integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic assessment for the UK ANTF grant project. The five-point scale for AI assessment was a joint innovation between our faculty and students, led by CRI. This initiative empowered students like myself to actively process complex learning topics using AI, while upholding academic integrity and responsible use of AI tools in our assessments. The tool, together with BUV’s AI readiness, has not only enhanced my learning experience but also prepared us for the disruptive technologies at school and in the workplace.”
