During a recent visit to Hanoi, Lord Puttnam, the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Vietnam, offered a message to future Vietnamese students. Lord Puttnam chose to communicate this through a postcard to be placed in a time capsule at British University Vietnam’s new Ecopark Campus. The ceremony took place on 09 March 2016, with the attendance of the management board of British University Vietnam, The Ministry of Education and Training, The People’s Committee of Hung Yen Province, the management board of Ecopark, and BUV parents and students.

Lord Puttnam is the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. His role is to develop and increase the UK’s trade and cultural engagement with Vietnam. This latest event at BUV reaffirms the strong and committed relationship that has developed between the UK and Vietnam, especially in the field of education, it also marks the commencement of the building phase of the 70 million dollar, state of the art campus in EcoPark, which at capacity will hold over 6,000 students studying British Degrees, here in Vietnam.

The postcard, containing sentiments for the future students of Vietnam, was written by Lord Puttnam and placed under BUV’s Ecopark campus, along with messages from current students, faculty and academic partners.

Prior to his role as the Prime Minister’s Trade and Cultural Envoy, Lord David Puttnam had an illustrious, thirty-year career as an independent producer of award-winning films, including The Mission, The Killing Fields, Local Hero, Chariots of Fire, Midnight Express, Bugsy Malone, and Memphis Belle. His films have won 10 Oscars, 25 BAFTAs, and the Palme D’Or (Golden Palm Award) at the Cannes Film Festival. In 1998, Lord Puttnam started to focus on his work in public policy, working on projects in the education, environmental, and communications industries.

This marks Lord Puttnam’s third visit to the British University Vietnam and his sixth visit to the country in his role. In 2015, Lord Puttnam gave a speech at the announcement event for The HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York Scholarship at BUV. These visits continue to affirm the commitment of BUV to bringing excellent quality programmes and respected British degrees to the students of Vietnam.
