


BRITISH UNIVERSITY VIETNAM (BUV)
British University Vietnam (BUV) is the first and only international university in Vietnam to directly award British degrees from the prestigious University of London and other UK universities. POSITION PURPOSE
The Teaching Assistant is responsible for supporting the creation, development, and delivery of learning and teaching materials across The Business School. This role ensures the efficient transfer of knowledge and the delivery of programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures. The position prioritizes student-centered learning, undertakes projects, development of impact-based learning tasks, and engages in research activities aligned with the goals of The Business School and the mission of the BUV academic faculty. Additionally, the role encompasses a variety of responsibilities that support the smooth functioning of school operations, including managing day-to-day activities, supporting faculty and students, coordinating events, and ensuring compliance with academic and institutional policies.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Teaching and Learning Support
- Assist in the creation, development, and delivery of learning and teaching materials.
- Facilitate discipline-specific classroom activities, which may include discussions, practical training sessions, events, or educational trips to enhance student learning and smooth operations.
- Assist teaching staff to supervise student projects, academic content and other student-centred learning opportunities.
- Support teaching staff to identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement and provide support in the planning, design and development of new content and teaching materials.
- Co-ordinate with the Discipline Lead, Programme Lead, and teaching team to ensure the learning needs and expectations of students at all levels of the specialist programme are met.
Administration and Management
- Manage day-to-day administrative activities to ensure the smooth operation of the school.
- Provide support and co-ordinate activities that may require assistance and ensure the planned activities aligned to BUV’s standard and strategic plan.
- Assist teaching staff in planning and coordinating events, including managing logistics such as venue booking, photography, video recording etc.
- Managing school’s shared folder for good e-record and housekeeping.
- Maintain good documentation and record keeping for reference and audit purposes.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination with all other functional areas for smooth operation of school teaching and non-teaching activities.
- Ensure maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Be involved in marketing activities, open days and other marketing related activities.
Student learning experience
- Help and assist to develop appropriate learning and support strategies to ensure student engagement and achievement.
- Act as learning mentor to students; advising on time-management, good study practice and pastoral care support.
Student Pastoral care
- Be responsible for the pastoral care of students within the specialist programme.
- Appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances.
- Use listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students and provide support.
- Identify at risk students and refer to teaching staff, student support and wellbeing team as appropriate for further support.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
COMPETENCIES (knowledge, skills, and abilities)
(Essential)
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline from an internationally recognized institution. Specifically, we are looking for Teaching Assistants in the following areas:
- Marketing and Management
- Economics, Finance and Accounting
- Hospitality, Tourism and Events
Applicants are expected to indicate which subject area they are interested in supporting and how their expertise aligns with this.
- Teaching qualifications or preparedness to work towards such
- Sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support.
- Knowledge of higher education teaching methods and an ability connect, enthuse and engage students
- Experience of a specialized programme area and willingness to develop personal skills and new knowledge within this field.
- Evidence of a positive contribution or engagement within the specialized discipline or programme area and willingness to share this experience with students
- Understand equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and issues relating to student need.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Able to communicate complex ideas to a range of groups
- Able to demonstrate independent and self-managing working styles
(Desirable)
- Knowledge of academic policies, accreditation processes, and higher education administration.

- Assist the teaching team in identifying the need for developing the content or structure of modules and make proposals on how this should be achieved.
- Support the teaching team in the design and delivery of modules and assessment methods taking into account established University practice and the specialist needs of students where necessary.
- Collaborate with the teaching team to ensure the efficient implementation and revision of assessment procedures to ensure good student outcomes and achievement.
- Tackle issues affecting the quality of student engagement and teaching delivery within scope of own level of responsibility, referring more serious matters to the Discipline Lead, Programme Lead or teaching team, as appropriate.
- Attention to details and problem-solving skill.
Work Environment
- Be aware of the risks in the workplace and the potential impact on their own work and that of others.
- Depending on area of work (for example laboratories, workshops, studios) conduct risk assessments, take steps to reduce hazards and take responsibility for the health and safety of self and others.
- Identify issues or concerns related to the learning environment and resources, referring more serious matters to the Programme Lead or teaching team, as appropriate.
- A typical office environment with occasional weekend work for events or deadlines.
