Game Programmes Delivered at BUV ranked 1st in the UK 11:46:44

Game programmes delivered at BUV, awarded by University of Staffordshire, have reaffirmed their leading position in game education in the UK with various awards and rankings, and BUV proudly reflects this excellence in Vietnam.

British University Vietnam (BUV) proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its awarding partner, the University of Staffordshire, which has once again been recognised as a leader in games education. University of Staffordshire was recently named the UK’s Best Educational Institution for Games at the TIGA Games Industry Awards and secured the No.1 position in The Rookies 2025 Games Development rankings.

Both The Rookies Rankings and the TIGA Awards are highly respected benchmarks in global games education, each offering a distinct yet complementary measure of excellence. The Rookies focuses on the outcomes of the students, assessing creative output, technical proficiency, production readiness, and employability potential, ensuring that results reflect the tangible skills and real-world readiness of graduates. Meanwhile, the TIGA Award places emphasis on an institution’s broader educational impact, recognising not only universities that successfully deliver graduates into the games sector, maintain strong and active industry partnerships, but also demonstrate ongoing innovation and research leadership.

Collectively, they affirm University of Staffordshire’s comprehensive approach to games education: one that nurtures not only world-class creative talent but also a sustainable ecosystem for innovation and professional growth. University of Staffordshire’s position at the top reflects genuine, industry-validated performance — reinforcing the credibility of the programmes delivered at BUV.

Bringing World-Class Games Education to Vietnam

BUV offers two undergraduate programmes awarded by University of Staffordshire: Computer Game Design & Programming and Games Art. These degrees follow the same curriculum frameworks, academic standards, and quality assurance processes used in the UK, ensuring that BUV students receive a learning experience equivalent to studying at one of the world’s top institutions for games.

BUV provides both the curriculum of a top UK university and industry relevance to game students in Vietnam

Mr. David Holloway, Programme Lead for Game programmes at BUV, explains that Staffordshire’s strength lies in its close alignment with the global games industry, its portfolio-focused approach, and its faculty’s professional expertise. “The curriculum integrates creativity with technical skill, ensuring graduates are not only employable but also innovative thinkers capable of shaping the future of interactive media,” he says.

While maintaining UK academic standards, BUV tailors the learning experience to the Vietnamese and regional context. This includes partnerships with local studios, exposure to Southeast Asian gaming markets, and the encouragement of culturally resonant creative projects. Students develop the capabilities expected by international employers while cultivating a distinctive Vietnamese perspective in both game development and art. Prof. Christopher Headleand, Head of Games Institute at University of Staffordshire, commended, “BUV’s student projects represent a perfect synthesis of academic rigor and practical utility, the students have gone beyond simply demonstrating technical competence.”

Amplifying Career Prospects for Future Game Developers in Vietnam

Vietnam’s games ecosystem is rapidly growing and presents an exciting backdrop for our programmes. This strong momentum means that graduates of BUV’s game programmes are entering a sector with both international competitiveness and vibrant regional relevance.

In recent years, BUV’s game students have also demonstrated remarkable promise and achievement, reinforcing the quality of the university’s training ecosystem. Students consistently earned top prizes at the Global Start-up Design Thinking Hackathon, showcasing their ability to merge creativity with practical problem-solving. The annual BUV 48-hour Game Jam continues to attract praise from industry experts. Many ideas developed through coursework or Game Jam prototypes are now becoming full indie titles, including Curse of the Lineage, which secured thousands of add-to-wishlists even before its official release.

BUV’s game programmes are propelling young talents into a booming industry both regionally and internationally

University of Staffordshire’s top-ranking status directly benefits BUV students by enhancing the reputation of the degrees they earn. Graduates are equipped with strong portfolios, industry-relevant skills, and internationally recognised qualifications — assets that support career pathways in global studios, postgraduate study abroad, and Vietnam’s rapidly expanding games sector. Industry partners also affirm the strengths of BUV’s talent pipeline. According to Mr. Arthur Michoux, Studio Manager at Gameloft who has supervised generations of interns and junior developers from BUV, students stand out as a promising talent pool, with a solid foundation of knowledge built during their studies at a pioneer institution in professional game design.

This recognition is equally a milestone for BUV, underscoring the strength of its long-standing partnership with the University of Staffordshire and shared commitment to cultivating world-class game developers and artists.
