BUV becomes the first and only university in Vietnam to join the UN University Global AI Network 09:05:50

British University Vietnam (BUV) is proud to announce its membership in the UNU Global AI Network, becoming the first and only higher education institution in Vietnam to join a prestigious global platform led by the United Nations University (UNU) and its partners. This milestone underscores BUV’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for sustainable development, responsible innovation, and inclusive growth.

BUV has been at the forefront of AI adoption in higher education through its AI Assessment Scale (AIAS), developed by Assoc. Prof. Mike Perkins, Head of the Centre for Research and Innovation, and colleagues, now applied in more than 20 universities across the world (the US, the UK, the Netherlands, etc.). By integrating the AIAS into teaching and learning, BUV has provided a structured framework for evaluating AI adoption in education, enhancing personalised learning experiences and academic support. Research initiatives at BUV have also examined the ethical implications of AI in education, contributing valuable insights on responsible AI adoption.

The AI Assessment Scale, now applied in more than 20 universities and academic insitutions across the world

As the only Vietnamese institution to join the UNU Global AI Network, BUV will collaborate with academic institutions, private sector leaders, policymakers, and civil society organizations to harness AI’s potential for societal benefit. With this membership, BUV joins a distinguished network of institutions and organizations dedicated to driving positive change in AI, including the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Information Management Unit of the United Nations’ Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO), among others. The network provides access to invaluable resources and opportunities to engage in global discussions on AI governance, ethics, and sustainable applications.

Assoc. Prof. Mike Perkins highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “BUV’s inclusion in the network provides an exceptional platform to share our research on addressing digital divides in the Global South while learning from global experts. This collaboration enables BUV to contribute to Vietnam’s unique perspective on international AI discourse, ensuring technological advances benefit all segments of society. We’re excited to help shape inclusive AI solutions for sustainable educational development.”

Assoc. Prof. Mike Perkins recently gave a speech at the UNESCO Digital Learning Week on how AI Assessment Scale may shift our perspectives on education and assessment

Through this partnership, BUV will advance AI research that fosters ethical and responsible innovation, working alongside global experts to develop solutions that bridge digital divides and promote equitable access to technology. By engaging in policy discussions, BUV aims to shape AI governance frameworks that ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable digital future.

This membership represents a significant step in BUV’s journey towards becoming a leading institution in AI research and education, empowering future generations to readily and responsibly shape the AI landscape.
