Course length - 24 weeks of teaching split between two 10 week semesters. The two semesters are divided by two weeks of non-teaching – one of which is exam week and one of which is time off.
Course Content
Principles of Accounting (BUS0115)
The accounting module is designed to prepare students for accounting and finance studies at a tertiary level. It consists of four major areas which are:
Financial accounting;
Management accounting;
Partnerships, Non-profit organizations and Cash Management and Control; and Interpretation of Financial Statements
Students are provided with knowledge and understanding of the principles and processes of accounting applicable to sole traders, partnerships and non-profit organizations.
Information Technology For Global Business (BUS0715)
This module is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge and skills needed over a broad range of business computing topics in preparation for studies at University level. Students are taught basic through intermediate computer concepts with an emphasis on the PC and its practical use, including computer hardware, software, the Internet and World Wide Web, networks, E-commerce and database management system (DBMS).Students also develop the skills needed to create text documents and presentation slides, manipulate and analyse data using spreadsheets, as well as organise and retrieve data using database.
Principles of Economics (BUS0615)
The module looks at the central problems of economic societies at the micro level by first understanding the behavior of consumers and producers and the role of factors of production. An understanding of these individual decision making units will be the foundation for the macro issues of national output, international trade and the various economic policies.
Business Enterprise (BUS0515)
This module will enable students to gain an understanding of the business principles necessary to start and operate a business. They will be aware of the opportunities and risk in operating a business. In addition, students will develop skills in planning which is essential for opening a small business. Students will explore and discover the knowledge needed in research, planning, financing, operations and regulations that are affecting small businesses. They will learn strategies of business management and marketing in making a profitable and successful business.
Quantitative Techniques (BUS0815)
This module is designed to provide the candidate with sound basic mathematical and statistical knowledge on the important aspects relevant to career in business and commerce.
People and Organisation (BUS0523)
This module aims to provide a broad understanding of organisational behaviour as a base for future study and practice of management. It introduces the issues surrounding people and organisations. It focuses on basic management theory, organisational environment and issues such as leadership, motivation, power and conflict. Students will be able to relate concepts and theories to real life situations in management and organizations.
English (BUS 0925)
This module is specifically designed to prepare students for the rigors of academic reading and writing in the English university environment. The emphasis of the module is on the development of academic reading and writing skills, as well as techniques for critical thinking.
Entry Requirements
- 17 years old and above.
- Completed Year 12 or equivalent; and
- Upper Secondary school certificate (Graduate grade 12) with Grade 12 Maths GPA of a minimum 7.0
- IELTS 6.0 (no band under 5.5) but IELTS 5.5 (no band under 5.0) can be considered by the Admissions Panel
