Ecopark Campus And Learn Project Management

On  08 November, as part of their Project Management class a group of 2^nd year students attended the BUV Ecopark campus’s construction site. The purpose of this visit was to enable students to gain a fuller understanding of the complexities involved in real-life project management and to see how the theory of Project Management learned in class can be applied in practice.

Accompanied by Dr Mike Perkins, students were introduced to Mr. Scott Haagsma; the Senior Project Manager in charge of the implementation of Ecopark project. He explained to the students how one of the most important things in project management is ensuring that the organisational structure is clear to all parties involved and that open channels of communication are available to avoid misunderstanding. Students also had the opportunity to visit the building site itself, and see the progress of the work. They were able to see how changes in planning could affect the construction works and were very keen to see the development of the football pitches and sports facilities.

The Project Management class enables students with the key skills required for them to understand the importance of project management within all organisations. Dr Mike explained that: “This visit has been really important for allowing the students to hear from a real project manager and for them to see the real-life impacts of key decisions within a project environment. It was also fascinating for me to see the rapid progress of the campus”. BUV is committed to supporting these types of visits as they help students across all degree programmes to see how the knowledge they learn in class gets applied in the rapidly changing business environment of Vietnam.
